I recall often swimming in a pool as a child, pretending to be a mermaid. Now, I paint and sculpt them. My mermaids lounge, serene and self-possessed, as they play harps fashioned from worn-through seashells. In other paintings, sea turtles glide underwater, and egrets stand peacefully in tranquil lakes. I love creating clay sculptures of dolphins, seahorses, and underwater creatures. This portrayal of coastal subjects comes from a genuine love of the Crystal Coast in North Carolina. Other subjects include flowers, mythological beings, even tropical frogs!
Almost 30 years ago, I came to North Carolina as a student at UNC-Chapel Hill, where I met my future husband, Lin Walker, a native North Carolinian. I taught middle school art for several years aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and now reside in Carteret County. I hope you enjoy the dream-like world I try to portray. You are invited to share in this visual experience.
